The Auburn Puppy Mill

Justice for the Auburn Puppy Mill Dogs!

The IssueIn early December, 2016, 57 Havanese dogs were rescued from an illegal puppy mill in Auburn, California by the Humane Society of the Sierra Foothills. The puppy mill had been in operation for 25 years. The adult dogs suffered from rotting teeth and chronic ear infections resulting in many of the dogs having ruptured eardrums. The dogs lived in wire cages covered in urine and feces. If water was available inside the cages, it was filthy. Many of the dogs and puppies were infected with worms and ear mites. Officers and a veterinarian provided evidence of this animal abuse to the Placer County District Attorney’s office, but we’ve learned charges are not going to be filed.

About UsWe are a group of individuals who are extremely concerned about this horrific case of animal abuse. Some of us have fostered and cared for the dogs during their recovery period, some of us have adopted one of the dogs and have witnessed many health and psychological problems with them. All of us are concerned citizens who believe it is the duty of the District Attorney to prosecute the individuals responsible for these acts of cruelty – for the dogs themselves as well as the human factor, as research shows a definite correlation between animal cruelty and human violence. All attempts to meet with Placer County District Attorney Scott Owens to discuss reasons behind the “no prosecution” decision, have failed.
